The Pushkin State Russian Language Institute has upgraded and globally unveiled PushkinOnline, an intuitive online portal designed to aid those looking to learn Russian as a foreign language. CROC completed the project within four months.
The Institute is a leading provider of Russian language tuition in the CIS, provides training for students from 90 countries, and carries out the government program for global promotion of the Russian language. Therefore, the Institute wanted to upgrade its portal, through which it interacts with the public, in order to add advanced interactive online training tools and keep abreast of international best practices.
As a result, CROC expanded portal functionality, thus enabling teachers to develop unique training courses customized for groups of students speaking different native languages, with a wide range of interactive tasks and advanced communications now being offered. In addition, this tool also provides monetization opportunities.
"Making it possible to learn Russian for anyone from anywhere in the world is our top priority," said Margarita Rusetskaya, Principal, Pushkin State Russian Language Institute. "Today, we have really reached a new level by providing an advanced training tool to students from various countries. We are pleased with the ability of CROC’s professional team to understand and quickly address our specific challenges on the PushkinOnline portal."
Upon thorough analysis, CROC completely changed the portal’s information updating procedures. Thanks to the new functionality, teachers no longer need to contact a website admin and can instead independently create unique courses and fill them with content using cutting-edge interactive task templates: video and audio formats, automatic crossword generation, consistent content to link tasks within a long-term training course, etc.
In addition, the first steps were made to monetize the Institute’s services: automatic tariff generation, rollout of a new individual tutor support service, advertisement posting on the portal, and much more.
"The project truly benefited from effective cooperation between CROC and Institute teams, which allowed us to provide a more effective and entertaining experience for learners of the Russian language," said Marina Yaskevich, Vice Principal for Innovative Activities and Distance Learning, Pushkin State Russian Language Institute. "The portal currently serves over one million registered students and boasts five million visitors from 200 countries. We hope to continue our cooperation with CROC."
"CROC has been providing businesses with portal solutions for over 10 years and is currently seeing drastic changes in the industry as more and more organizations are looking towards resources that provide monetization opportunities," said Konstantin Astakhov, Head of Portal and Mobile Solutions, CROC. "The project turned out to be very interesting, especially considering the Institute’s important mission to promote the Russian language among adults and children all over the world."
The project involved an advanced open source technology, Ruby on Rails (RoR). The new portal functionality is currently available to a private group of students and will soon be open to everyone.
CROC has been working in the IT market since 1992 and is today one of the top 10 IT companies (RIA Rating, Kommersant Dengi, Expert Rating Agency, 2015-2016) and the top three consulting businesses (Kommersant Dengi, Expert Rating Agency, 2016) in Russia.
CROC is the number one IT service provider in Russia (PAC, 2015), a leader in IT outsourcing (TAdviser, 2015), application management (PAC, 2015), ERP and e-document management systems (TAdviser, 2016), telecommunications (Expert Rating Agency, 2016), IaaS (CNews, 2016), and one of the largest providers of integrated data center, building and facility infrastructures (CNews, 2016). CROC regularly ranks among the top three Russian IT service providers to the finance (TAdviser, 2016), government (PAC, 2015), healthcare and transportation (CNews, 2016), energy and manufacturing (Manufacturing Management portal, 2016), and retail (CNews, 2016) sectors.
In addition, CROC offers services based on its own commercial data centers and its public cloud, and also creates private and hybrid clouds based on either own or client data centers. Indeed, CROC is the only Russian systems integrator with a data center to have received full Tier III certification from the Uptime Institute.
