Alternative Energy for MegaFon
Project objective: Provide wireless communication to subscribers in locations far away from power transmission lines and reduce the number of onsite genset maintenance visits.
Result: It is impossible to establish a centralized power supply in remote regions where base stations are far away from power transmission lines Telecom carriers have to use diesel gensets, which are very expensive to maintain.
As a result, MegaFon decided to consider alternative power supply sources for base stations.
For the most effective performance of the energy suite, CROC conducted preliminary testing, calculated the necessary capacity of autonomous sources, and selected both equipment and the windiest site for installation.
Alternative energy suites installed by CROC comprise wind turbines, rechargeable batteries, free coolers, and power switchboard equipment. The system is automated, with base stations operating independently, while additional remote monitoring and control systems allow for manual operation if necessary.
