April 27, 2021 - In 2020, CROC Cloud Services continued to grow, with the standalone CROC business unit increasing its revenue by 37% to RUB 3.2+ billion and now serving over 550 companies (32% more YoY). Moreover, the company also managed to increase average bill size and cross sales to certain accounts. These great results can be attributed to a focus on managed services, which gained popularity during the pandemic, and the adoption of a more customer-oriented approach, thus winning new customers.
The strategy of CROC Cloud Services in 2020 included expansion of service portfolio based on the classic IaaS offering. Therefore, the provider launched 10 new products and services designed to improve infrastructure security (cloud-based Web Application Firewall and Anti-DDoS, subscription-based backup), manageability and flexibility (Kubernetes as a Service), as well as business process support (Big Data from cloud). The business unit also focused on the development of expertise in managed services and consulting. As cloud projects are becoming ever more technically complicated, customers do not always have enough in-house skills and resources to correctly select the proper solution architecture, perform the migration without downtime, or support the infrastructure at every stage of its life cycle. In such cases, the skilled CROC Cloud Services team is ready to step in and provide consultations and solve problems on a 24x7 basis.
In 2020, the provider increased its number of specialists and now employs 115 developers, infrastructure operation and service support engineers, account and sales managers. CROC Cloud Services consists of unique subject matter experts who work together to leverage the provider’s 12 years of experience in infrastructure and application operation and adaptation to the cloud. The team is key to ensuring the competitive edge of the business unit, which was recognized by CNews as the highest quality cloud service provider in 2020.
Moreover, CROC Cloud Services continues to make CROC Cloud platform hardware more reliable and powerful and to expand its functionality. In 2020, the provider finished the largest hardware infrastructure upgrade in its history. Opting for time-tested Dell Technologies systems, the company optimized CROC Cloud fault tolerance and stability. The provider also purchased approximately 200 high-performance servers to meet the growing needs of existing and future customers. To speed up the operation of cloud-hosted systems, CROC Cloud Services tested Intel processors, and then selected and customized the most suitable solution. This helped ensure a double-digit percentage acceleration of resource-intensive cloud-based applications such as 1С. For user convenience, the provider introduced 79 new features to the platform in 2020. These include the option to connect virtual machines to multiple subnets, tagging, volume snapshot creation without stopping the VM, automatic recovery of Kubernetes cluster master node in the event of failure, expanded Terraform capabilities, and an improved console web interface.
The fact that CROC Cloud Services is developing faster than the Russian cloud business proves that we have adopted the right strategy and game plan. At the same time, we always keep an eye on new trends and can thus adapt to the changing environment and help our customers do the same. A good example is the COVID-19 pandemic, during which many of our customers experienced an increased load on information systems and needed additional computing resources
