Kimberly-Clark Improves Business Intelligence

July 27, 2010

Kimberly-Clark Corporation recently improved sales data analysis efficiency in its Russian distribution network, with performance data on more than one hundred Kimberly-Clark distributors now being collected and analyzed on a daily basis using a Business Intelligence (BI) system based on IBM Cognos 8 BI. CROC implemented the system within a three month time frame.

In Russia, Kimberly-Clark offers personal and child hygiene products under three major brands: Huggies®, Kleenex® and Kotex®. The products are distributed via an extensive distributor network which extends throughout the country. Until recently, secondary sales and stock data were provided to Kimberly Clark via various spreadsheets and were very difficult to consolidate and analyze. The BI system allows Kimberly-Clark to update sales information on a daily basis, run multidimensional analysis, calculate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and instantly generate diversified reports.

“We no longer spend much time and money on incoming information processing. Instead, we analyze the information, find bottlenecks, and eliminate them. The new system has allowed us to improve supply chain marketing management as we can now generate a comprehensive picture of the entire distribution network,” said Maxim Peikov, Business Director of Kimberly-Clark in Russia.

CROC NSI Suite, a part of the BI system, helps unify and represent sales data from various viewpoints including sales channel, territory, and sales manager and representative responsibility.

“Our objective was to make data array management flexible and easy. We managed to unify over a hundred product directories containing approximately 1,000 items,” said Dmitry Mugenov, Corporate Accounts Director, CROC. “The project was the starting point for Kimberly-Clark’s BI system development. In the future, we plan to extend the solution to cover primary sales and product stocks in Russia as well.”

The scope of the project included data warehouse development; business intelligence system deployment based on IBM Cognos 8 BI; Master Data Management (MDM) system implementation based on CROC NSI Suite; and Sales Force Tool add-ons for managing sales representatives.
